A bit about me - Laura Maddock

Music has always been a part of my life.  A lot of my family are musicians and when I was a child I used to love visiting my uncle's house, where there was a whole room full of instruments.  Family parties would always involve performances on the piano, guitar, drum and karaoke machine.

I taught myself how to read music whilst I was at primary school and the first instrument I learnt to play was the recorder.  I then went on to learn the many instruments I now teach.

I have taught music since 1999 when, at the age of 16, I trained with the Technics Music Academy. I went on to complete my degree and then went travelling around the world - just me, my guitar and a camper van called Skippy! It was on my travels around Australia that I came up with the idea of Beat Street.  There were often very long car journeys and there was a lot of time to think!

On my return to England I had further teacher training with the Yamaha School of Music and started giving group and individual music lessons at the Worcester Academy of Music.  I also started giving lessons on the keyboard/piano at Northwick Manor Primary School.

After having my two children I moved from teaching at the Worcester Academy to my own studio in Worcester and have been teaching there ever since.  I run workshops in schools and during the pandemic co wrote the book "21 fun songs to teach French phonics," which has been published by Brilliant Publications.

About

Concerts

I believe in the power of performance and at least once a year I give all my students the opportunity to appear in a charity concert. So far we have raised over £1,000 for local Charities.

Students also get the chance to meet each other and perform songs of their choice as a group.  This also encourages students to practise, try out other instruments and learn skills such as composition, arrangement and harmony.
